Emergency Power Services
"There are no emergencies for those who are
prepared." ---James
Talmage Stevens
It is not our intention to send unwarranted
fear out to our customers. However, there is nothing
like being prepared. When events like Katrina happen
you can't help anyone else if you yourself
are in need.
If backup power is your only goal,
a backup generator is
the best choice. If you are interested in renewable
power such as a solar or wind system they can be
installed to allow some backup power through a battery
bank as an added bonus. Please see Residential
Services and Resources for more information.
Let's assume you will have a simple
backup generator. We will ask you, do you need to run everything
in your home during an outage? This is possible,
however it often requires a very large generator.
Assuming you believe the outage will be temporary
(2days or less), people can usually get by on certain
circuits being operable which keeps the size and
price of the generator down.
So the next question
is which circuits? Obvious items are your furnace,
deep freeze, refrigerator, microwave (instead of
the oven), water well pump (if you live in the country),
and a few lights which are good as an emotional
booster in an outage.
You also need to consider the not
so
obvious. Does someone in your home need medical
equipment running, do you have fish tanks, what
about the electric
garage doors? We are glad to help you ask and answer these questions.
Which will allow us to help you choose the right
size and type of generator to fulfill your goals.
